Last Saturday and Sunday, over three hundred
participants gathered together for the Dark Shadows
Island Weekend in the sunny, scenic setting of
Southern California on Coronado, across the bay
from San Diego.
Festivities began on Saturday evening, April 27,
with the world premiere of the independent
film "Doctor Mabuse," a psychological thriller,
starring original DS actors Jerry Lacy (in the
title role), Lara Parker and Kathryn Leigh Scott.
All three joined filmmaker Ansel Farah in
person to view the film and share anecdotes
in a panel discussion with the audience.
Attendees were also able to receive autographs
and enjoy the beautifully restored Coronado
Village Theatre where the screening was held.
DS actor Chris Pennock, who will appear in
the "Doctor Mabuse" sequel, also took part
in the evening.
The next day, Sunday, April 28, fans gathered
again at the nearby Coronado Marriott Hotel for
the second part of the DS Island weekend for
an extended DS Luncheon starting at 11:30 am
and finishing at 5 pm. A wide array of door prizes
were given out as Jerry Lacy, Lara Parker,
Kathryn Leigh Scott and Chris Pennock dined
with the fans. After the meal, David Selby took
to the stage, accompanied by Jim Storm on guitar
and David's wife Chip on piano, to present a
special homage to DS fans - a musical program
of songs, "Shadows & Light," which touched upon
DS topics, fond memories and other subjects close
to David's heart. After the show, all six DS actors
took part in a Q&A session followed by autographs
and an auction of DS collectibles. A variety of DS
merchandise, including new T-shirts and tote bags
from MPI, was offered, plus each fan received a
complimentary "gift bag" from MPI, including a
Barnabas "bobblehead," 3-D key chain and Bob
Cobert music CD.
During the luncheon, it was also announced
that following the Dark Shadows Halloween
Cruise this October, the next Dark Shadows
Festival activity will be a special event in
the summer of 2014 at the Lyndhurst Estate
in Tarrytown, New York with the stars of the
DS movies "House of Dark Shadows" and
"Night of Dark Shadows" and others plus
exciting surprises.
Last year, the Festival presented a tribute
day at Lyndhurst remembering Jonathan
Frid. The Festival has been hosting DS
gatherings at Lyndhurst since 1983. Please
note the DS fan gathering taking place this
summer at Lyndhurst is not associated with
the DS Festival/Official Fan Club.
